I've spent over a decade writing about Iceland professionally.

I've authored and updated Iceland guidebooks for Intrepid, DK, and Bradt. I've written about the country for National Geographic Traveller, Condé Nast, The Times, Lonely Planet, and many others. Before any of that, I spent years living and working in Iceland’s tourism industry, exploring the country as I went.

But the country has been part of my life for even longer than that. My parents worked in the Westfjords in the 80s. My aunt married an Icelander — my cousins grew up speaking both languages. When I eventually moved there myself to see what all the fuss was about, I had planned to find work on a sheep farm, but ended up in tourism instead, and never really left.

When I plan your trip, you're not getting a template or a travel blogger's highlights reel. You're getting the same depth of research and knowledge I put into my commissions for the world's biggest travel publications, applied specifically to you and your Iceland trip.

Client Reviews

A customized itinerary through James was perfect for me! He listened to exactly what I wanted to get out of the trip, pieced together amazing places for me to visit, and laid it out on both Google Maps and a PDF with estimated times/duration, where to get gas/groceries, etc. The way it was pieced together allowed for flexible last minute changes as I made adjustments based on weather or how I was feeling. Highly recommend James to help craft your custom Iceland itinerary to take the load off your shoulders. It's vacation - outsource the planning aspect to a local pro to maximize your enjoyment!

I had the most incredible experience in Iceland thanks to James' itinerary. He suggested some amazing tours, and everything was very easy to follow for our trip around the ring road. Thanks!

James put together an itinerary for us, which was extremely useful. He pointed out camping sites and hikes we would never have found without his help. Iceland is beautiful!
